What Scholarships are Available to Nursing Majors?

If you’re considering a career in nursing, there are many scholarships that can help fund your education. Many have no requirements for entry, but other scholarship opportunities are for reserved for applicants with a specific grade point average, nationality or disability.

While many opportunities exist for beginning nursing students, there are still many scholarships for advanced studies in nursing. Each scholarship has an application process and specific requirements are listed in the scholarship description.

Beginning Nursing Students

Tylenol Future Care Scholarship
This scholarship is available to residents of the United States. Applicants must have completed at least one year of an undergraduate university or technical school and have at least one year of school remaining. Applicants must submit an essay that will be reviewed by a selection committee. Grade point average, community involvement and health education will also be reviewed. 30 scholarships worth $5,000 each are awarded yearly as well as 10 scholarships worth $10,000 each.

Anne Ford Scholarship
Established by the National Center for Learning Disabilities, this scholarship is available for high school seniors who wish to pursue a nursing degree. The student must have a learning disability to be eligible. The scholarship lasts for the entire four years of the degree program, and the student will receive a total of $10,000 ($2,500 a year).

Allogan Slagle Scholarships
The Association of American Indian Affairs distributes this scholarship based on the needs of the applicant. The student must be an American Indian or Alaskan Native in a tribe not recognized by the federal government. The student is awarded $1,500 for any degree they wish to pursue.

Scholarships for Advanced Degrees

AfterCollege/AACN Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is offered quarterly to students pursuing a nursing degree. Students have to be enrolled in a program for their baccalaureate, doctoral or master’s degree. The recipient is awarded a total of $10,000. There are no ethnic or gender requirements for the scholarship.

American Nephrology Nurses’ Association

The American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA) awards several scholarships every year to individuals currently enrolled or accepted in an undergraduate or higher degree program in nursing. Applicants must be members of the association for a minimum of the last 2 years by the application deadline. Applicants must also be involved in the nephrology nursing field. The scholarships range from $1,000 – $2,500.

Above and Beyond Scholarship
The Above and Beyond Scholarship is awarded to students who are pursuing an advanced degree in nursing, health administration or gerontology. The National Association of Directors of Nursing Administration in Long-Term Care gives four scholarships to members or member-sponsored applicants.

All of the scholarships listed here are nationally sponsored and administered scholarships, which means they are available to anyone in the U.S. as long as they meet the other requirements. Check the websites of the scholarships to find application deadlines, essay requirements and required grade point average.
